SNM Comments to CMS RE: 2007 Proposed HOPPS Rule

On September 19, 2006, the SNM sent comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the hospital outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) proposed rule for calendar year (CY) 2007.

SNM Comments to CMS address the following:

  • New status indicator Q for CPT 38792
  • Proposed CMS reassignment of nuclear medicine procedures to new or different APCs
  • The continued assignment of the NM procedure, CPT 78730, bladder residual volume, in the non-NM APC 0304
  • Reimbursement for Radiopharmaceuticals and Drugs

The SNM prepares charts and spreadsheets that evaluate the impact of the proposed HOPPS rule for nuclear medicine procedures and products. The proposed 2007 charts and spreadsheets, as well as the SNM’s official comments to the rule, are currently available on the SNM Coding Corner.

We recommend that all SNM members weigh in on the proposed rule by sending comments to CMS no later than October 10, 2006. Members are encouraged to send CMS their support of the SNM’s comments or copy and paste directly from the SNM comments if they wish. Comments should be submitted online at the following address: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/oc/dockets/comments/commentdocket.cfm?AGENCY=CMS, by clicking on Docket ID CMS-1506-P.
