SNM Takes Part in Recent Mo-99 Stakeholders Meeting

SNM took part in a recent Mo-99 Stakeholders meeting in Washington, D.C.  The purpose of the meeting was to provide updates on supply challenges for Mo-99 and the current activities underway to ensure a domestic source of radioisotopes.  The meeting was hosted by the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in the Executive Office of the President and attended by government agencies such as DOE, HHS (FDA and NIH), NRC, DHS, State, and NNSA, the medical community, patient groups and industry.  During the meeting, participants were made aware of a situation that has the potential to impact Mo-99 supply in early 2012.  SNM understands the situation is being addressed by the respective stakeholders, including Covidien, who reports optimism that a solution will be found that allows for uninterrupted Mo-99 supply.  Please see attached a customer letter from Covidien which provides additional details.  For more information, contact HPRA@snm.org.
