SNM Submits Comments to CMS on ICD-10 Postponement of Compliance Date

May 23, 2012

On May 17, 2012, the Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on their proposed rule on the postponement of the compliance date to October 1, 2014, for the move to the International Classification of Diseases.

SNM agreed that there should be an extension , but recommended that CMS further extend the ICD-10 deadline at a minimum to October 1, 2015. Extending the postponement period would provide CMS with the time necessary to pursue a cost-benefit analysis of the full ICD-10 move that covers the administrative and financial impact of the ICD-10 move on physician practices.
