Update on Senate and House User Fee Reauthorization Bill

May 25, 2012

On May 24, 2012, the Senate passed the Food and Drug Administration’s user fee reauthorization bill and according to the Congressional Budget Office, it would reduce the federal deficit by $363 million over 10 years.  However according to the CBO, the House reauthorization ran into a potential issue, where it would add $247 million to federal deficit over 10 years. This number contrasts with the CBO’s earlier report of the estimate for the amended user fee reauthorization bill passed by the Senate.

The House is expected to take up a final version of the reauthorization during the week of May 30 and a final set goal by both chambers will be given to President Obama by early summer.
