Update: Mallinckrodt provides additional information on Dutch High-Flux Reactor

March 1, 2013

On February 28, 2013, Mallinckrodt issued a customer letter stating new information regarding the operational status of the Dutch High-Flux Reactor (HFR). Mallinckrodt was informed by the Nuclear Research and consultancy Group (NRG) that they expect a return to service for the reactor no earlier than the beginning of May.

Mallinckrodt has secured the necessary molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) from other sources within their comprehensive supplier network to fulfill customer requirements of technetium-99m (Tc-99m) generators through mid April.

Mallinckrodt has stated that if the National Research Universal Reactor (NRU) in Canada shuts down for their planned maintenance schedule from mid April to mid May, and if HFR has not restarted, it will cause a huge impact to the global Mo-99 supply. However, if either reactor is in operation, all customers will be supplied.
