The Nuclear Research and consultancy Group (NRG) has issued a customer letter on the status of the HFR reactor in the Netherlands. Recently, it was advised that the HFR return to service was dependent on the review of the detailed safety case for the replacement of a set of seals at a separate location lower in the reactor, as well as the completion of the review of the Asset Integrity Program and the execution of any new tasks that were indentified.
NRG has stated that the review of the replacement of the set of seals has been completed by the Reactor Safety Committee and approved for further distribution to the Dutch Competent Authorities, which is a four week process. Following the one week replacement period for the seals, the NRG must gain Dutch Competent Authorities approval before a restart is possible.
Therefore, HRF is not anticipated to return to service before May 2013, with a two week advance notice before return to service is proposed.
NRG will provide further notice on Friday, April 12, 2013. SNMMI will provide you with up-to-date information as soon as it becomes available.
