PET Best to Spot Bone Lesions in Myeloma

September 20, 2012

PET imaging outperformed other modalities for identifying bone metastases in patients with recurrent multiple myeloma in a small clinical study.

PET with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG PET) revealed new skeletal lesions in 15 of 21 patients as compared with 11 and 12 patients diagnosed using somatostatin receptor scintigraphy (SRS) and radiographic skeletal survey, respectively, as reported online in Clinical Nuclear Medicine.
