November 27, 2011
As the end of the year approaches, facilities that provide Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Services (ADI) should be aware of the January 1, 2012 accreditation mandate for nonhospital suppliers. If you have completed your accreditation congratulations! The next important step is to verify your National Provider Identifier (NPI) with your accrediting body. Below is specific information regarding where to verify your accreditation information is correct with your accreditation organization so that CMS can process your claims on January 1, 2012.
Facilities accredited through Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL) should access their IAC Online Accreditation account no later than November 30, 2011 to enter and/or verify and update the National Provider Identifier (NPI) data and/or Medicare enrollment numbers. CMS as well as other private insurers will only be verifying the accreditation status of a supplier through data file transfers containing this information. Incorrect identification data will result in nonpayment of Medicare claims after January 1, 2012.
Facilities accredited through the American College of Radiology (ACR) should log into ACRedit (https://acredit.acr.org) to confirm or update their national provider identifier, facility information, modality information and more. Once there, click on the My Modalities link and then click CMS information to verify that this information has been provided. Failure to verify your NPI do so could result in claims denials of reimbursement from CMS.
SNM has reached out to The Joint Commission (TJC), but at present time we have not received any information regarding how to verify your NPI. Please check back regularly, as we will update this section as soon as possible.
